The original author of Dirvish, jw schultz, died in March 2004. He was a frequent contributor to the Perl, Rsync, and Kernel mailing lists. His consulting company was at www.pegasys.ws. As we learn more, we will memorialize him here.
jw did not like to be known as "Jonathan". He was an intensely private person. For example, we have no adult photos of him, and he admonished others in email to not use anything other than "jw".
However, his family and the friends of his youth knew him as "Jon" or "Jonathan". These pages are intented primarily for the benefit of the living, and people trying to find him using Google. jw no longer needs anonymity.
- Jon could look at a computer program printout as if it were a picture. He once told me that when he looked at the printout it was like looking at a picture of a person and if something was in the wrong place or malformed it would be very obvious to him. This was a God given gift that neither of us understood; we just accepted it for what it was – a gift.
- I put "Remember Cernan and Schmitt" in the same sense as "Remember the Alamo" or "Remember the Lusitania". They were the LAST to walk on the moon. That we have someone to identify as the last is unfortunate
- Jonathan W. Schultz was born October 5, 1961 in San Rafael, CA. He passed away on March 25, 2004 in Nevada, age 42
Lissa Halls Johnson sends the eulogy that she read at JW's funeral. Very moving
